This 24 hour operations program is delivered on the PWC platform in static and or dynamic water, up to class 2 whitewater. During the course, students learn the fundamentals of hydrology and how it relates to PWC operation, design, and construction of the vessel. Other skills covered are pre-trip, post trip operation and maintenance of PWC, SAR theory and techniques utilizing the PWC, self-rescue and victim recovery strategy and techniques. Utilizing PWC’s with and without rescue boards, students will get 2.5 days of hands on skills development evolutions, emphasizing: use and avoidance of hydraulics, ferrying various current flows, towing, docking, pacing and crew transfer, self-recovery, victim pickup, recovery sequences, throw bagging from a PWC, and deploying a rescue swimmer from a PWC. GPS theory and uses in PWC operations will be included, challenging newly developed PWC operations skills and integrating local and national GPS standards into completing a victim recovery scenario.
Students will receive the CA OSFM PWC Rescue Operations Certificate upon successful completion of the course.
Prerequisites: Basic Swimming Ability
Required PPE:
* Helmet
* Live Bait Type V PFD
* Wetsuit or Drysuit
* Water Shoes
* Gloves
Course will be confirmed once the minimum class roster of 8 students is met.
Refund Policy: Full refund is available if canceling more than 30 days before the course. Cancellations made within 30 days of the course will receive a 75% credit towards a future course. Cancellations made within 15 days or more before the course will receive a 50% credit toward a future course. No credits will be issued for cancellations made fewer than 14 days of the first day of the course. Credits are good for 1 calendar year, no exceptions. Any cancellations must be received via written notice and emailed to maritime@intrepidgroup.us. Cancellations made outside of the 30 day window will be given a full refund or full credit transferable to a future training with Intrepid Maritime.
